I've been taking this module called French Attitudes towards Self n Nation and boy i must say that our professor, Jean-Luc Vannier, for that module is really a very passionate guy. He speaks about the French History and the french revolution like it is his blood bleeding and something that he so firmly believes in.
He's really a nice guy cause we were discussing something about the Violon Concert that i attended and he started sending my some nice email invites to Barouquen music in Nice and Phil-harmonie Opera de Nice that kinda stuff. However i have to admit that his classes can be a taint boring especially when he drifts on to talking about philosphers like Descartes, Voltaire, Rosseaux, Aristocrat ............. zzzzz Oh well at least he kinda hint hint to us that no one will fail this course which is good enough for me haha.
Something he said last lesson struck me. Its about belonging and the rewinding of the quest of individualism. He mentioned something about how people from the past always stood up for individualism in a society that was bounded by hierachical system and all the regulation crap. But now as our society becomes more civilized and developed, people are instead looking for a group to belong in so desperately, especially in the younger generations. He mentioned "Where has individualism gone when all you do is to mould and shape urself to belong to a group, there are people who need others to tell them who they are so much that they cant live for themselves outside the group"
Oh well i cant help but wonder if its the people that makes the group what it is or the group that makes the people for whom they are.
and what if u dont even have a group to start with..
